Hornets often hang from a bush or tree to build large nests looking like a carton. At night is the best time for hornets to be treated. It is not practical to remove only the nest itself as the surviving wasps can build another one. It is preferable to treat the nest during the night when the workers and queen are still present.

A hornet’s nest has one opening. This is normally located at its bottom. The nest paper must not be damaged if it is to be treated. If it is it will result in wasps spreading all around outside the nest and causing more problems. Hornets are more risky and difficult to manage than other social bees. Hornet nests may contain thousands of them and they can become aggressive, sometimes extremely aggressive, when disturbed.
